A Recap, My Travolta Name, & Things That Beat Another Blanket Tent.

Local peeps, there is so much wonderfulness afoot. (Not the weather, though. Hahahaha. No.) I mean arts-wise.

Stuff I Find Ridiculously Cool:

  • On Sunday, March 9th from 11am to 3pm, the Ruth Page Center for the Arts is hosting their annual Open House for dance and fitness classes. This means you can sample any of their 30-minute introductory classes (for kiddos and adults) FOR FREE. And you can try as many as you like: acrobatics, Pilates, Afro-Cuban dance and everything else you [I] pretend you’re [I’m] already good at. There’s no reservation needed and, if you dig the class, you’ll have the ability to purchase an 8-class card for the price of 4 classes! (Which will make you the skilled jazz dancer you are in your dreams IN NO TIME.) Check our their website for a full listing here.
  • You guys, homegrown star Billy Zane (Titanic, Broadway’s Chicago, that excellent cameo in Zoolander) is starring in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s The Sound of Music this spring, running from April 25th-May 18th, 2014. And he’s Captain von Trapp. Have you mentally purchased your tickets yet? Yes. Yes you have. Seats start at $29 and are now available here.
  • And this very Saturday (March 8th at 3pm!) is the Band Together: A Chicago Kindie Album Celebration Concert over at Lincoln Hall. As I’ve mentioned before, all you families with music-savvy kiddos (and, uh, people sans children who just dig children’s performers- I do not judge) are gonna want to see this impressive lineup of Chicago faves. This supra-cool event is affordable ($15 for adults/$5 for kids/non-walkers free, plus you get a free download of the album with your ticket) and is for an excellent cause (the Intonation Music Workshop, which benefits and empowers Chicago-area kids). Buy your tix here.

Please take us out of this house.
