RoundUp: Friends, The Arts, & Listen To Your Mother Vids!

This past week has been pretty darned fun. We made the most of the long weekend by puttering around the house for even longer periods of time, and even shoved studio headphones on our kids so they could properly enjoy up close n’ personal fireworks without that pesky hearing loss thing.

And last night P.J. and I met up with one of my longtime pals and all-around favorite people- my pen pal Armando from way back in the day. God bless random school assignments. And God bless Mando’s wife Julie (another close pal and bloggy bestie) who didn’t combust with Feelings when she found out that her husband would be coming to Chicago without her. (Next time, friend.) So far we’re averaging a meet-up once every 16 years. See ya in our 50s, buddy!

Sorry Peej isn’t in pic I had on my phone.
Also, apologies for the quality. Boka is pretty dark.
Holy moly, shameless Chicago name-drop.

And now, for the hits. (If by “hits” we mean “stuff I shoved onto WordPress last week”):

Last Thursday, I had a rather rotten day. My sister balanced things out by plastering her face all over a building.

For Throwback Monday, I reminisced about when our house was broken and children dominated my day. Ah, mem’ries.

I sailed. Proving that, quite literally, anyone in Chicago can and should make this part of their summer funnitude.

Other things I super dig:

Little Beans Cafe (whom I love), is hosting a fun concert this Friday, July 11th featuring Mr. Singer (whom I also love) from 5-7pm. And if you go through this link, you get a discounted ticket of $15 (with additional sibs at $10 a pop) which includes music, dancing, playspace time, pizza, and ice cream. Plus, adults are free.

Free tickets have just been released for Chicago Dancing Festival shows, both at the MCA and the Harris. The programs run from August 20th to 23rd and look seriously, seriously amazing. FREE DANCE PERFORMANCES, YOU GUYS. The lineup is rather impressive (The Martha Graham Dance Company! The Juilliard School! The Joffrey Ballet!) , and even includes two world premiere commissions. Tix can be purchased in person at either venue or by calling the box offices. Full deets here.

Chicago friends, go to Hashbrowns Cafe and say “Lollygag Blog” and get free kid entrees when you buy adult ones. IT IS SO WUNDY THERE.

Oh, remember when I was in the show I couldn’t/wouldn’t shut up about? WELL. The video segments for 2014’s Listen To Your Mother Chicago show are up and at ’em! Watch and share them to oblivion here.

And if you happen to have read Expecting: A Year of Fixing Up and Breaking Down…and if you happen to be so incredibly, generously inclined…I would love a few reviews, stars, karmic high-fives, etc., etc., etc. on Goodreads and Lulu

Also also also, this is gonna be my last Round Up post until late August. ‘Cause I’m hittin’ the open(ish) road on Friday. Until my return, you’re gonna have to hit that dandy “older posts” button…or Google some stuff…maybe practice the long lost art of letter-writing…or BuzzFeed quiz-taking…

Love, Keely

Who already knows her theme song, aura color, and which Smurfs character she’d be.
