Bowling, Books & Brains, Oh My!

Remember how I’ve been taking a break from the Wednesday round-up for the past few months? (If you don’t remember, just nod and smile. We’ll both believe what we both believe.)

WELL. There’s just so much fun stuff going down this summer in Chicago- so here’s a good start:

A Smattering of Things Your Kids Want To Go Do

You know that sound your kids’ brains make as they looooose their haaaaard-eaaaaarned knowledge(eee)? Brain drain is real, folks. Luckily, so is the fabulousness of the Museum of Science & Industry. Starting June 22nd, the MSI is relaunching their incredible- and free!- Summer Brain Games program. And don’t think you have to be local to enjoy this magic; kids all over the country can sign up to get eight weeks of kid-friendly science projects pinged right to their inboxes. (Although Chi-area kids will be able to take advantage of the free MSI admission voucher! And the out-of-town kiddos? They’ll just have to pester their folks to come visit this amazing city ASAP.) Go here and do this. You’ll be in good company, my offspring included.

Science, you guys.

I know I’ve blogged about this one before: Kids Bowl Free provides two free games daily to kids all summer long- and yeah, it’s totally free. (Parents can even join in for a small fee!) This is ridiculously great, and it’s another one of those cool things that kids nationwide can take advantage of. (We go to Waveland Bowl on Western Ave.- seeya/challenge ya there?) Sign up here so your kids can burn off all that extra energy accumulated by, like, 8:32 a.m.

Hey readers of all ages, the 31st annual Newberry Book Fair is taking place July 23rd-26th (at the Newberry Library, 60 W. Walton St., Chi). I could tell you that this world-renowned library is offering up 120k books in over 70 categories, or that there’s something for readers of all ages, but here’s the thing that’ll most likely get you to go: Most books are only two bucks. Go. Go go go go go.

And after all that activity? Naptime.

‘Tis the season.
