Just the bullet points, folks.

This week has been mentally, physically, psychologically, and culinarily exhausting. (Okay, I just threw that last one in there for fun. Our food situation has been just fine.)

But here are the highlights:

  • The girls have attended half-day vacation bible school with a bunch of their friends this week; even though we really haven’t been going to church a ton lately, Nora and Suzy certainly know enough to hold their own in a super-chill camp environment of the spiritual variety…but maybe I need to keep a closer eye on the smaller one. At pickup the other morning, I was able to see the last few minutes of the closing songs and group blessing. The kids were asked to quietly bow their heads and say a small prayer. Most did. Not Susannah, however! That little bug of mine stood up, clasped her hands in front of her chest, squeezed her eyes shut, and loudly prayed “Aaaaaaamen.” (A friend next to me leaned over and whispered, “Did your kid just get saved?”)
  • While the girls were in samesuch camp (Me: Girls, what did you learn about today? Them: …God. Me: God how? Them: …God…thinks we’re nice. Me: Great!), I took Jasper to the park. And on a stroller walk. And out for mini adventures, just him n’ me. And read a crazy amount of books together. After the first few days of him looking frantically over his shoulder for the possibility of being smushed to the floor by a wayward sister and having a thoroughly concerned look on his face as the sole occupant of the minivan backseat, I think he had quite a nice time.

No, for real, where did everyone go?

  • I was lucky enough to designate a few hours to myself yesterday for creative, non-work purposes. During that time, I realized that a mystery I had been attempting to turn into a play was actually meant to be a book– and I finished the first full chapter. And I really, really like it. And very few of these phrases are ever strung together like this for me, so this is EXCITING.
  • We saw friends (who used to live in Chicago) on their drive out East…and our kids got along like gangbusters. (Related: Is that good? Is that a positive phrase? Are gangbusters generally socially compatible people?) It’s so nice to sit and catch up with people who make your soul feel good.
  • Tonight is Taco Thursday. Better yet? It’s Taco Thursday with carryout from the place down the block from us. (Gracias.)

Feliz Jueves, amigos.
