Procrastination. Or, A List of Things I Am Doing Right Now.

Ways I am embodying “procrastination” today

(And, in embracing procrastination, the ways I’m avoiding actual work, housework, or any other kind of work.)

(A true story.)

Staring off into the middle distance.

Staring off into the nearish distance.

(Seeing my coffee cup and reheating it.)

Checking Facebook.

Refinishing a table. <—(Aggressive avoidance, right there. However, the table looks fantastic.)

Marveling at red, autumnal trees.

Wondering why we don’t have red, autumnal trees in front of our home.

Googling trees. Literally just the word “trees.”

Opening the Shazam app in traffic and realizing that you just “discovered” a radio ad.

Wondering why the Harry Potter wand you painted with your kid last night has yet to dry.

Googling “paint.” Also “drying times.”

Staring at a laundry pile and pretending it’s the middle distance.

Stepping around the laundry pile to get more coffee. (To be awake for…something, I guess.)

Checking Facebook.

Thawing sausage.

Realizing the sausage still has a long way to go, defrost-wise, and deciding to give up the sausage dream. Or serve it for dinner. I don’t really know right now. What was I even going to do with the sausage? Eat it over the sink?

Spending a few moments questioning my own judgement.

Contemplating a walk.

Mispelling “procrastination.”

Doubting spellcheck.

Saying the word “procrastination” out loud so often that it becomes a silly word. (Wondering if I can do that with other words.)

(Finding out that I can.)

Face-planting on the couch for “just a sec.”

Checking Facebook.

Digging burnt matchsticks out of the wax of an almost entirely cashed candle.

Washing three dishes (and telling the rest you’ll come back for them later).

Googling that Ikea ad where the lamp was sad.

Changing it up and checking Twitter.

Regretting that last one.

Debating sending this list to my therapist and calling it “ways I embody self-care.”

Deciding, instead, to share my wisdom with others.

(Happy Thursday. Live it fully! You know, when you get around to it.)
