A Roundup: Eye Candy Theatre, Great Reads, & Sunscreen That Won’t Burn Your Eyes.

Happy Wednesday! The girls’ room is mostly done upstairs (photos tomorrow)! And the post-baptism laundry is mostly done downstairs (no photos tomorrow)!

Stuff I Wrote Which May Contain Bodily Function References:

There’s a lot to do ’round here.

Stuff You Should Know About (Which Do NOT Contain Bodily Function References*):

(*Beyond receiving free samples, I was otherwise not obligated to write about these things, nor did I receive other compensation. And I mean it about the bodily functions. You’re in the clear, here.)

As the temps this week are rather balmy in Chicago (for now), we’ve been slathering on Block Island Organics sunscreen– and really digging it. Now, for the organic and natural sunscreen newbie, there’s some stuff you’ve gotta know. Namely, that with the non-chemical stuff, you’ve gotta be super quick with the rubbing-in, and plan on using multiple layers. (Otherwise you’ll end up with the dreaded Chalk Face.) But it’s kind of a small price to pay for this great non-toxic mineral based protection, which also boasts being vegan formulated, non-comedogenic, phthalate, nano, artificial fragrance and paraben free, non-eye irritating, and not tested on animals. It’s made in the USA and rated highly by the Environmental Working Group. (I’m pretty sure it also does my taxes.) Plus? It smells really, really good. Like a subtle neither male nor female herbal scent. And as of this week, my kids are standing still for its application and going to bed each night sans sunburn. (Listen, it’s the little things that make you feel like you’re really bringin’ it as a Mama.) You can pick up some Block Island Organics here, and smell as good as I currently do. (Good luck on that one!)

This might sound weird coming from a social media addict such as myself, but I’m really liking Brad Berger’s new book, Unplug & Play! 50 Games That Don’t Need Charging. Perhaps it’s the cozy memories of sitting around a table on vacation and playing strategy games with one’s [really, really competitive] family or the admission that I’m truly just a nerd who adores wordplay- but I was excited to search through this book for new ideas. And best of all? It’s all ages, people. The games are broken up into six categories: list matching, calling bluffs, strategy, beating everyone else to the answer, memory, and puzzles. You can buy it here– and then come over and play, sometime. (That is, if you’re not afraid to lose like a big ol’ losey loser.)

And speaking of books, my darling friend- and accomplished author- Jennie Lawlis Goutet of A Lady In France acclaim, has a new children’s book out called Happy People Everywhere. Actually, it’s an old children’s book, penned years ago during her many travels overseas. And it’s flat-out adorable. Who doesn’t need more happy?! No one, that’s who. No one doesn’t need more happy. You can get your copy here– and as of this very moment it is free for Kindle download. FREE HAPPY. (You’re welcome.)

So get outside. Or stay inside and read.

Either way, be happy.
