Mom’s Streaming Sanctuary. (Thanks, Netflix!)

As a member of Netflix’s Stream Team, it’s my really, really fun job to share each month’s exceptionally curated content. June’s theme is Mom’s (and Dad’s!) Streaming Sanctuary and- for real- you’re gonna love what’s now available for devouring.

Boy oh boy, did this month’s Netflix Stream Team round-up really speak to me on a deep and personal (and exhausted) level. Because it’s all about Mom’s Streaming Sanctuary (…you know, the ones you’ve been queuing up for months but haven’t had a chance to sit back and enjoy- and seriously? Who peed on the couch? Is no one here capable of putting bodily fluids where they belong?!)

Digression.

Netflix Stream Team June

So June’s titles are pretty much the shows that everyone, everywhere is- or should be- watching. You’ve got your Orange Is The New Black devotees, the folks seeing what all the Breaking Bad fuss is about (or binge watching the series from the beginning), and the show that lights up my social media feeds with laughter and tears- Parenthood. (Which is totally on my list of things to watch once the kids are in bed, the laundry is decently done, the counters are no longer sticky, and nothing is due by midnight. Why don’t I also just add “and once I’ve stabled my unicorn for the evening,” since I seem to be living in a universe where anything is possible. That said, I’m dying to power through that show.)

But if you really want to know what series I’m rabid for- the one which got watched (and watched and watched and watched) even before the stuff that needed to get done got done? Sherlock. Sweet Hosanna, I love this show. I love this show. It’s smart, it’s hilarious, it’s fast-paced mystery at its best- and it’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. And since Sherlock started streaming, I’ve been mainlining snippets of episodes on my computer, my phone, and my iPad at even the slightest opportunity. (Kids putting on their shoes? That’s like a scene and a half.)

Feeling like revisiting a fave that all your friends were gaga for (while you were doing something lame which, frankly, you can’t even recall)? Catch up on Weeds and Freaks & Geeks– and then tell everyone you watched them both from Day 1.

And remember how, as a Stream Team gal, I usually feature a related craft or activity right about here? Yeah, that’s not happening this month. As part of June’s theme of a “streaming sanctuary,” I’m sharing my tips n’ tricks for unwinding. Ready for them? They’re gonna blow your mind.

If and when the situation presents itself, I’m always at the ready: a glass/fishbowl of pinot noir (but really, in a pinch a Moscow Mule or chelada beer will do), a snack at hand (chips straight from the bag really bring out the plumminess of the pinot noir), and some good, quality snuggling with…my Netflix app on the ol’ iPad.

Okay. Fine. FINE. P.J. is preferable to a streaming device, really he is.

So on those nights where he’s finished up all of his tasks pre-bedtime (like feeding the narwhal and laying out shoes for the cobbler elves), we watch our favorite titles on a slightly bigger screen- and move the drinks and snacks right between us, just below our linked hands.

But when he can’t join me? We have a bit of an understanding. And it involves two other men, both possessing British accents and a predilection for fighting crime.

Now that’s a way to spend an evening.
