Summer Brain Boosts, AKA Netflix Wants Me To Snack.

As a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, I’m ridiculously happy to tell you guys about this month’s theme- summertime brain boostin’ for those information sponges you (and I) call children. And hey, we are always one “hands-on learning activity” away from a snack. Hungry?

Here’s the thing.

Once summertime hits, it’s oh-so easy for kiddos to lose the brain stimulation as quickly as they lose the structure and outside-appropriate outfits of the schoolyear. (Anyone else’s kid have certain ensembles that really aren’t Big Wide World ready? No?)

I’m pretty lucky in that my gals are both preschoolers and preschoolers learn from every single thing we say and do OH MAN, CAN I CLIMB ON THAT?! Netflix’s current lineup of bitty kid-friendly adventures and animated problem solvers is seriously- honestly- chock full of titles that the whole family can get behind.

For instance, is Huckle Cat a hero in your household? How about Lowly Worm? Or the underrated Big Hilda? We’re superfans of Busytown Mysteries and dig on its themes of working as a team and thinking critically. (Well, as critically as one needs to think in order to solve the mystery of the disappearing muffins. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil it for you.)

How about Leapfrog: Math Adventures to the Moon? Oh man, we adore Tad and Leap and Lily (and Violet and Scout and Penny). The Leapfrog series strike that nice blend of adorable, super informative, and not grating even in the tiniest bit. (Parents: Can I get a youknowit?)

And if you’re really going for a trifecta of awesome: take the skills of problem-solving, the story line of a mystery, and the cool cred from a way-back-in-the-day flick to get The Great Mouse Detective. Picture Sherlock Holmes in mouse form. Are you watching it yet? I’ll wait.

(Looking for more amazing- and appropriate titles? Check out Common Sense Media’s list of documentaries for all ages. And they’re all streaming right this very second!)

I know it seems like we’re always snacking ’round here. Probably because we usually are. But can I help it that this month’s snack activity (snacktivity!?) is brain food popsicles made from Greek yogurt and berrylicious ingredients? No. No I cannot. See how we made the magic happen over at Andrea Lynn‘s home for deliciousness.

Life hack: we didn’t have any berries and are about to embark on a crazy-long roadtrip. So I used whatever juices and fruits we had strewn around. Are you surprised that it was still delicious?

I used up random ingredients in our fridge.

The girls got popsicles for breakfast.

There was zero sugar crash in our morning.

Who’s the smartypants, now?
