A RoundUp Of Chicago Fun, New Theatre, And- Ooh, Shiny!

The temps have been wonderfully summer-like this past week (which jives completely well with the past summer’s spring-like conditions), so I’ll totally understand if you haven’t caught up on your blog reading. But the time has come.

I’m totally kidding.

But just in case, here’s the rundown:

nora cozy

Settle in, it’s a long one.

And now for what’s probably the funnest stuff in the history of fun:

Is your kid into Yo, Gabba Gabba? (Are you, perhaps, the one who is into Yo, Gabba Gabba? We judge not. Much.) If any of the interested parties in your household want to meet Brobee (and again, it’s totally cool if it’s you), head to Westfield Hawthorn this coming Saturday, October 4th, and Westfield Fox Valley on Sunday, October 5th. Crafts and activities, professional photographs, and giveaways galore. Plus, Brobee. Brobee, you guys.

Saturday, 12-4pm at the Gap Court- Westfield Hawthorn, 122 Hawthorn Ctr

Vernon Hills, IL 60061 (847.362.2600)

Sunday, 12-4pm at the Macy’s Court- Westfield Fox Valley, 195 Fox Valley Center

Aurora, IL 60504 (630.851.7200)

Break out the lovies- and pretend that your awkward tears are really a weird cough- for Lifeline Theatre’s newest KidSeries show, The Velveteen Rabbit. This beautiful tale (adapted from Margery Williams’ classic book) shows the transformative power of a child’s love, and what makes a thing “real.” I love this theatre, friends, and they’re oh-so good with lovely stories for the younger set- and you can’t beat their Stories Come Alive! hour before or after weekend shows.

Runs Saturday, Oct. 18th to Sunday, November 23rd at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. Glenwood Ave., Chicago

Longtime Chicago theatre aficionados will know the name TUTA- and the company’s predilection for gorgeous, occasionally haunting, always wonderfully engaging Eastern European tales and world premieres. Now they’re offering up an acting class for 4-6 year olds in their new Ravenswood Manor location– and I seriously wish I could sign up. For me. Not my almost-five-year old. Me. Who is…slightly older than that. The 4-6 year old class for TUTAtots is called Animals in ACTion (and I kind of want to fall over from the cute). It’s taught by TUTA company member Helen Lattyak…and I can pretty much guarantee that your kiddo will have the best time of their life with this crew.

Go find out more and let your kid live out your- er, their– dreams of the stage.

And now for something completely different…and ridiculously sweet:

Girl Power Bands are a new (and stretchy!) way to affirm a positive message. One Dad, striving to inspire his daughter, wrote on a stretched-out rubber band which, when re-stretched, revealed his secret note to her. And she pretty much thought it was completely amazing. Now, years and multiple designs later, Brian Redmond’s creations are being sold by Zootuz as Stretch-N-Reveal bracelets. They’re really cute ways to instill self-confidence. They’re a fun way to mix n’ match messages and colors. And they’re yours for the taking. (Want one? I’ve got a few to give away. No need for a fancy Rafflecopter today; just lemme know in the comments if you’d like one for the smallish female in your life.)
