Friendsgiving With The #StreamTeam (And Wayne And Garth).

Happy almost-holiday season from Netflix and the #StreamTeam! Each month I get to share wonderfully curated shows and movies tailored for each member of the family. This month’s theme is how great it is to have friends. Which is pretty great.

Friendsgiving, you guys. It’s a thing.

And sure, lately my “friends” with whom I “give” have been extremely short and lacking certain table manners. But seeing as the gals are starting to navigate the ins and outs of best friend-itude (and the bizarrely irrational You’re Not My Friend Because You’re Wearing Green pre-K mean-itude), what better time to celebrate friendship and show my kids what real friendship should look like?

I don’t mean by setting a great personal example- oh no no no no no. I mean through the medium of exceptional television. Let’s begin. (And I know that you and I know that we KNOW Friends will begin streaming on Netflix January 1st, 2015. THAT IS SO SOON, FRIENDS.)

For the littles, it’s hard to beat the deep and abiding love between Charlotte and Wilbur. (Nora is currently obsessed/borderline horrified about this storyline/her intense love of bacon.) And how about the partnership of Shaggy and Scooby? Actually, it would be hard to top the bromance of those awesome (and wild) Kratt brothers (and the seemingly endless supply of improbable devices at their disposal.)

For the grown-ups (and those of us who try their darndest to pass for “grown-up”), there’s Rory and Lorelai– yes, mother/daughter, but also very much so best friend/best friend. Then there’s the duo of Mulder and Scully, with whom I desperately wanted to be an investigative trio with, until I realized how much “science” and “extraterrestrial knowledge” would’ve been involved. (Also- eventutally- I realized that The X-Files was just a show. Bummer.) And my favorite of all best-friendships (outside of my own): Wayne and Garth.

And in case it ever comes up, I can quote that movie for any applicable situation at the drop of a hat. Any at all. Really. Please never hesitate to ask.

This is how P.J. does Friendsgiving. With tons of short people.

This month’s supra-cute themed activity involves creating veggie (and starch!) stampers. Check it out for some art projects worthy of the “good” holiday storage box. (Honestly, parents cannot resist Thanksgiving-themed artwork and the saving of it for posterity to infinity and beyond. Throw in a handprint or two? Whoo boy.)

But seeing as our paints are in the timeout closet (long story),  I decided to celebrate a li’l Friendsgiving with the girls and ask them about the friends for whom they were thankful. (I didn’t even ask Jasper, for I already know his answer: A boy’s best friend is his mother. Wait, didn’t Norman Bates say that? Okay, let’s leave Jasper out of this one.)

So, Nora. As a five year-old, you’re pretty savvy about what makes a good friend. Who are you thankful for?

“Avery, because she likes to play bears, lions, dragons, and bats with me.”

Anyone else?

“Norah Z. is my great friend. She always wants me to play with her! Nova and I play princesses together.”

That it?

“And Suzy! She really likes me. She’s so playful at me.”

Those are good qualities. How about you, Zu?

“Margot! She’s so beautiful. And I love her.”

Any other pals?

“Zeke! I like Zeke! But he likes dinosaurs. But most of all I love Jasper- he’s my baby. He’s really, really funny.”

The takeaway? Be funny, be playful and- if you want extra credit- be a sibling.

Party on, Garth.
