Time in a bottle with Great Clips’ #MoreMinutes.

As soon as I saw the campaign hashtag for this one- #MoreMinutes – I was so totally, thoroughly on board. My first thought was, well, Great Clips has done it. They’ve found a way to bottle up time and to use when we need it. This must be the future.

And while it’s not exactly that, it’s pretty close. With the (free!) Great clips app, you can glance at your phone, see what the wait is for a haircut in real time, and add your name to the wait list. Once you do that, you’ve have a personal countdown to your appointment- freeing you up to do anything else you want. Anything, that is, besides standing in a salon waiting for a haircut with a sticky child under each arm and wondering why “2:30 p.m.” doesn’t mean “2:30 p.m.” in appointment-speak. For example.

Guys, I’m not just whistling Dixie, here. (Namely because I cannot whistle. True story. It’s a frightening thing to see me attempt.) This Great Clips app is actually rather great. Jasper and I tried it out this past Friday with wicked awesome success. Here’s exactly what happened:

8:43 a.m.: My friend Renee asked what my plans were for the day. I texted back that I was thinking of getting Jasper’s hair cut. (Because boy children= hair like weeds.) She invited my girls over to play whenever that went down. I said awesome! And then promptly spent the next 20 minutes looking for shoes, packing at least one sippy of water, and tearing out a recipe from an article on the counter.

9:26 a.m.: Loaded children into the car. Could not- even at knifepoint- tell you what happened to make me lose the other 23 minutes.

9:32 a.m.: Pulled up at Renee’s house. Opened the Great Clips app and saw 3(!!) locations nearby. (With 3,800 Great Clips salons located in the U.S. and Canada, there’s probably one near you, too!) The one closest to Renee’s house offered a wait time of 9 minutes, but the one down by the coffee shop I like said 20. I opted for the second so that I could a) chat with Renee for a few, and b) then go get a cup of really good coffee.

9:52 a.m.: Post-chat and post-coffee, Jasper and I were seated and caped for a very Big Boy haircut. (Yes, the cape for me was a good idea because my son is a nudgeball.)

My crazy eyes are due to the fact that I kept saying “Please just sit still for ONE picture, buddy.”

10:15 a.m.: Who’s that handsome devil? And how’s that lollipop, friend?

We ran a few more errands, met the gals back at the park near my friend’s house, and had everyone (Jasper) home by naptime. Now THAT, my friends, is an exceptional use of #MoreMinutes. Try it for yourself! Truth be told, I had no idea how many Great Clips locations were near my ‘hood. It pretty much makes squeezing in a last minute haircut (especially for the squirmy wormies for whom schedules and temperaments change by the minute) the cinchiest thing ever. (Back to school prep, anyone?)

Another great reason to download the Great Clips app and get to experiencin’? The more you use the #MoreMinutes hashtag on your own social media pix (detailing, of course, what YOU’D do with that extra bucket of time), the more chances you’ll get to be surprised by a Great Clips random act of kindness. Intrigued? Of course you are!

So go get a completely awesome, completely convenient haircut for yourself- or your own squirmy wormies. Hashtag a picture, share that sucker, and revel in all of the minutes you’ve saved. Those things add up. I’m holding out for a nap. Now, the question remains: What would you do with you do with #More Minutes?

(Dream big.)
