Grateful. But Not In Meme Form, No Sir.

I was recently tagged in one of those Grateful meme thingies on Facebook by one of my favorite (and way-backiest) friends and, while I don’t generally participate in those for just anyone, I’m gonna make an exception for the gal who met me on the first day of sixth grade. While I was clad in a floral jumpsuit. And she still decided to sit with me. Because that’s a friend, people. (Hi, Lori!) But because I’m just enough of a {Read More}

A Winner for Expecting: A Year Of Fixing Up And Breaking Down, And A Farewell To Fall.

First things first… I’m thrilled to announce the winner of last week’s giveaway for Expecting: A Year of Fixing Up and Breaking Down, now available on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and in that fancy ol’ paperback form. Drumroll…(pencil tap)… Kerry C! Congrats, enjoy, and may it act as a talisman against future homeownerly problems. *** Now. Fall schmall. Here’s proof that the fam is hanging onto the last of summer with their fingernails and teeth and sandy little toes. P.J. grew {Read More}

The Road Trip In Pictures…Some More.

And here’s Part 2 of the ol’ Pittsfield/Boston wrap-up. In photographs. Because I’m now in Cape Cod. Obviously.

Pictures From The Road Thus Far.

So now’s when we start our Pittsfield/Boston wrap-up. In photos. Part 1. With very little description. Because I am oh-so lazy.

Wilted, Hoardy, Flowers In The Attic.

It’s Week 3 of our 5 Week Go East, Young Family jaunt… So we dug out my parents’ attic. My oldest sister and I were in charge of the demo- er, organization. Here are some Big Dig highlights (keeping in mind that Kate and I were, quite possibly, left alone in a blazing hot attic for a tad too long):

Rest In Peace.

Early Sunday morning, the world dimmed a bit. It became a touch quieter, a little less celebratory, and forever changed for those who knew and loved my Uncle Felix. He lost his battle with cancer yesterday. But even that sounds wrong- saying it was a battle- because it wasn’t. It was an ambush. An unprovoked hostile attack against a brave man who said, You know what? Forget* you, cancer, I’m not going to spend what time I have left hooked up {Read More}

My Sis Does A Chicago FlyBy.

My youngest sister Emma came for a visit this past weekend; an all-too-short trip wherein I think we spent roughly eleven hours eating. Here are some highlights (of the trip, not the food): -Having my daughters crawl all over Em for 48 hours, thinking that everything she touches and says and does is actual, frameable art. (P.J. and I decided that Emily = Nanny-Era Keely, in terms of ability to be fun and awesome with children. This did not make me {Read More}

Sex Ed Scare Tactics (And Some Cute Baby Pictures).

I think I’m onto something. Forget outdated PSAs for sex ed. in our middle and high schools. Yes, yes, kids should know about respecting their bodies and prevention of diseases and all that…but if you want to really ensure that your kids will make smart choices? Show a video of a rest stop bathroom. And a parent attempting to corral a few whirling dervishes onto the potty. And then off of the potty. And- oh my God, don’t touch that. And {Read More}
